As we discussed and you read in the article on Tuesday, racial slurs have a loaded history in the United States and carry a lot of stereotypes and hateful connotations (hidden meanings) with them. However, some groups (besides just racial groups, but also gender groups, ethnic groups, etc.) have started taking back the language of oppression in order to remove the negative power from the word. Enjoy the following video that features a conversation between rapper Common and late poet Maya Angelou about the “n” word. WARNING: The video contains some strong language.
