I hope you are enjoying this weekend’s reading of pages 43-53 of the novel MAUS. Don’t forget to pay attention to the frame narrative – we are in modern day with Artie narrating when Vladek is wearing glasses. We are hearing the inside frame, Vladek’s narration, when Vladek is young and not wearing glasses. While there may be a quiz on Monday regarding these pages, I want you to read and enjoy. Pay special attention to the way that Vladek’s perspective changes throughout the chapter after his experiences with the Nazi soldiers (Compare: how does he feel about shooting at the start? How does he feel after he discovers the body of the soldier that he killed? I will award an extra credit point to anyone who can answer this question in written form).
I hope everyone enjoyed Crash Course history on Friday. If you’d like to watch the video again, click here. (I will also award an extra credit point to anyone who summarizes Hitler’s Hunger Plan in 3-5 sentences). I also recommend taking a look at other Crash Course videos about topics in which you are interested. Isn’t the internet a beautiful thing? It can be used to learn about so many different people, places, and ideas. Speaking of which, I’d like you to consider how the internet has changed the way that we interact with our world, both the good and the bad. This will be a major topic of discussion as we approach the middle of this unit.
I hope you all enjoy the reading and have a fun, safe first weekend of spring!
